Company Overview: Voice Up is a digital media startup that empowers college students nationwide to leverage the power of digital and social media for meaningful change. By amplifying their voices, we inspire students to raise awareness, foster discussions, and drive social justice initiatives through technology. We believe student-athletes have a unique perspective and powerful platform to inspire change in their communities and beyond.

Position Overview: The Program Director of Sports & Behavioral Health at Voice Up will lead initiatives to engage and mobilize college student-athletes, empowering them to advocate for social justice causes and to discuss the importance of mental and behavioral health. In this role, you will create programs that inspire student-athletes to share their stories, spotlight social justice issues, and promote mental health awareness. You will bring a blend of sports knowledge, passion for social justice, and an understanding of behavioral health to guide impactful programs and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Development & Strategy:

  • Develop and implement programs that encourage student-athletes to use their influence to address social justice topics such as racial equality, gender equity, and mental health.

  • Design initiatives that foster open dialogue about behavioral health among student-athletes, highlighting the importance of mental wellness in sports.

  • Work closely with editorial and social media teams to ensure a cohesive narrative across all platforms that aligns with Voice Up’s mission.

2. Community Building & Athlete Engagement:

  • Build and cultivate a diverse network of college student-athletes passionate about social justice and mental health advocacy.

  • Organize workshops, events, and campaigns that encourage collaboration among student-athletes from different sports and institutions.

  • Create partnerships with athletic departments, sports organizations, and behavioral health resources to support athletes’ social impact work.

3. Campaign Development & Storytelling:

  • Develop and curate content that highlights the voices and stories of student-athletes as they advocate for social justice and mental health awareness.

  • Support athletes in sharing their experiences and perspectives through video, social media, articles, and interviews to maximize impact.

  • Review and approve content to ensure it meets quality standards and aligns with VoiceUp’s values.

4. Digital & Social Media Strategy:

  • Collaborate with social media managers to create compelling, platform-specific campaigns showcasing student-athlete initiatives.

  • Develop content strategies that increase visibility and engagement for athlete-led social justice and behavioral health projects.

  • Monitor analytics to assess engagement and reach, using insights to optimize future campaigns and initiatives.

5. Behavioral Health Advocacy & Education:

  • Create educational resources and workshops focused on mental health in sports, working with mental health professionals to deliver effective content.

  • Organize discussions, panels, and mentorship programs that destigmatize behavioral health topics and provide tools for mental wellness.

  • Serve as a resource and advocate for athletes’ behavioral health, promoting a culture of openness and support.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled student at an institution of higher learning.

  • Or, recent college alumni.

  • Or, bachelor’s degree in a related field.

  • 2-4 years of experience in program management, community engagement, sports, or behavioral health, ideally with a focus on social justice or digital media.

  • Deep understanding of social justice issues, particularly those relevant to sports and mental health, with a commitment to advocacy.

  • Familiarity with social media platforms, storytelling, and multimedia content creation.

  • Experience building and leading programs or campaigns focused on youth or college student engagement, preferably in the sports community.

  • Strong communication, project management, and relationship-building skills.

  • Passionate about mentoring student-athletes and empowering them to use their voices for social impact.

Compensation: Compensation will be determined based on the startup’s structure and resources, with the potential for an equity stake in the initial stages.
