Project Overview: Voice Up is a digital media startup dedicated to mobilizing young people to create positive change in their communities and beyond. By empowering students with digital media tools and amplifying their voices, we help them advocate for social justice, share stories, and drive impactful initiatives. The Program Director for K-12 Education Innovation will play a crucial role in expanding our mission to reach and inspire middle and high school students, as well as their families, helping them realize their potential to make a difference.
 

Position Overview: The Program Director of K-12 Education Innovation will lead initiatives focused on engaging K-12 students, especially middle and high school students, in Voice Up’s mission. This position is responsible for designing programs and outreach efforts that inspire younger students to become active, socially aware participants in their communities. A core responsibility will be to promote the Voice Up Scholarship, raising national awareness and ensuring diverse student and family engagement. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for youth empowerment, an understanding of digital media, and experience with K-12 educational programming.
 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Development & Strategy:

  • Design and lead programs that encourage middle and high school students to use digital media for storytelling, advocacy, and social change.

  • Develop initiatives and resources tailored to K-12 students and their families, focusing on topics such as community engagement, social justice, and digital literacy.

  • Collaborate with the editorial and social media teams to ensure that Voice Up’s K-12 content is engaging, age-appropriate, and aligned with the platform’s mission.

     

2. Scholarship Promotion & Outreach:

  • Lead efforts to promote the annual Voice Up Scholarship, creating awareness campaigns that reach schools, families, and community organizations nationwide.

  • Develop partnerships with schools, nonprofit organizations, and educational institutions to increase scholarship visibility and applications.

  • Work closely with marketing and communications teams to create materials, webinars, and social media content to raise awareness of the scholarship and its impact.

     

3. Community Building & Family Engagement:

  • Build and maintain relationships with educators, school administrators, parents, and students to foster a supportive community around Voice Up’s K-12 initiatives.

  • Organize events, workshops, and webinars that provide students and families with tools and guidance on topics like digital storytelling, civic engagement, and college readiness.

  • Collaborate with parent organizations and school districts to deepen engagement and encourage community involvement in Voice Up’s initiatives.
     

4. Digital & Social Media Strategy:

  • Work with social media managers to develop targeted campaigns and content that engage K-12 students and their families on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

  • Use social media analytics to assess the impact of programs and refine strategies for greater reach and engagement with the K-12 audience.

  • Ensure that all content aligns with best practices for communicating with younger audiences and adheres to privacy and safety standards.

5. Educational Content & Resource Development:

  • Create educational resources and guides that equip students and families with skills in digital media, advocacy, and civic responsibility.

  • Design curricula, lesson plans, and activities that can be integrated into classrooms or used independently by students to support Voice Up’s goals.

  • Organize and facilitate training sessions for educators on how to incorporate Voice Up’s programs and initiatives into their teaching.


Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a higher learning institution, including two-year or four-year colleges, universities, or trade schools.

  • Or recent alumni with very strong on campus real time connections.

  • 3+ years of experience in program management, K-12 education, community outreach, or youth engagement, with a focus on digital media or social justice preferred.

  • Strong understanding of K-12 education systems and experience working with middle and high school students.

  • Proven experience in community building, family engagement, or partnership development.

  • Familiarity with digital media platforms and content strategy, particularly for younger audiences.

  • Excellent communication, project management, and relationship-building skills.

  • Passion for empowering young people and supporting families in education and social impact.


Compensation:
Compensation will be determined based on the startup’s structure and resources, with the possibility of an equity stake or deferred payment arrangement in the initial stages.
