Location: Voice Up Publishing Inc. (Remote)

Duration: 10-12 weeks, flexible hours.

Compensation: Academic Credit or Volunteer and Professional Letter of Recommendation from the award-winning Founder.

Voice Up Publishing is launching a student-led social media platform designed to analyze, discuss, and highlight the truth behind social justice issues, amplifying the voices and perspectives of college students. This initiative will become the benchmark to provide an engaging and balanced space for discussion on contemporary issues by promoting evidence-based content and facilitating respectful dialogue across diverse perspectives.

 

Internship Overview:

This internship provides an opportunity for college students passionate about social justice, journalism, and media to gain hands-on experience in digital content curation, editorial review, and fact-checking. Interns will join our College Student Editorial Board and contribute to the content vetting process to ensure accuracy, balance, and inclusivity on the platform. This is a remote internship, with a flexible schedule suited for students looking to enhance their editorial skills while learning about content creation and critical review processes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Content Review and Vetting:

Review submitted articles, videos, and posts for adherence to platform guidelines and community standards.

Evaluate content for clarity, inclusivity, and respectfulness in language and tone.

 

2. Fact-Checking and Source Verification:

Verify the accuracy of claims, data, and references in submissions, cross-referencing sources to ensure reliability.

Flag unsupported or biased information and collaborate with content creators for necessary revisions.

 

3. Editorial Balance Assessment:

Ensure that controversial topics present balanced perspectives, examining each piece for bias and factual integrity.

Collaborate with other board members to determine if additional perspectives or counter-arguments are needed.

 

4. Community Standards Enforcement:

Uphold professional standards by reviewing content for appropriateness and aligning with respectful discourse practices.

 

5. Sensitivity and Inclusivity Review:

Conduct sensitivity checks to ensure content promotes constructive dialogue on sensitive or polarizing issues.

 

6. Final Review Participation:

Participate in final content reviews with a lead editor, preparing approved content for publication.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program (preferably in Communications, Journalism, Social Sciences, or related fields).

  • Strong writing, editing, and analytical skills, with a passion for social justice issues.

  • Ability to conduct fact-checking and research, with familiarity with reliable news and academic sources.

  • Keen attention to detail and commitment to editorial integrity.

  • Experience with social media and/or digital content creation is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.

  • Open-minded, respectful, and willing to consider diverse perspectives.
