Job Title: Internship - Photojournalist & Documentary Film Internship for Social Justice & Impact

 

J Ellington Publishing is launching a student-led social media platform designed to analyze, discuss, and highlight the truth behind social justice issues, amplifying the voices and perspectives of college students. This initiative will become the benchmark to provide an engaging and balanced space for discussion on contemporary issues by promoting evidence-based content and facilitating respectful dialogue across diverse perspectives.

 

 

About Voice Up

Voice Up is a national media startup publication led by college students with a mission to amplify the voices of the most vulnerable and underserved communities. With our mission to, Lift, Live, Level Your Voice Up, we’re dedicated to empowering young writers, artists, and filmmakers to create impactful, high-quality content that drives change. Our platform covers a wide range of social justice themes, including mental health, racial equity, education, and community empowerment.

 

Internship Role

Voice Up is seeking passionate, creative, and committed Photojournalists and Short Documentary Filmmakers for a remote internship position. Interns will work alongside our college student-led editorial team, contributing to powerful visual storytelling that brings attention to social justice issues and the voices of those often unheard. This is a unique opportunity to build a portfolio while collaborating with a grassroots media organization, gaining valuable experience, and establishing your career in media and social justice.

 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Voice Up editorial team to develop visual stories that align with our mission.

  • Produce high-quality photojournalism pieces and/or short documentary films focused on social justice issues affecting marginalized communities.

  • Interview individuals and groups for feature stories, capturing personal experiences and insights related to topics like mental health, economic disparities, and educational inequities.

  • Edit and compile photos or film footage into compelling narrative pieces suitable for digital publication.

  • Assist in managing photo and film assets, organizing work for easy retrieval and publication.

  • Participate in editorial meetings to pitch ideas and discuss upcoming projects.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in journalism, media studies, film production, or a related field.

  • Proven experience with photography or film production, including editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro).

  • Strong storytelling skills and an interest in social justice issues.

  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet project deadlines.

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
