Company Overview: Voice Up is a digital media startup dedicated to mobilizing college students across the country to harness the power of digital and social media for meaningful change. By connecting students and amplifying their voices, we empower them to create impactful stories, raise awareness, and drive social justice initiatives through digital platforms.
 

Position Overview: The Program Director for the Creative Arts at Voice Up will play a vital role in inspiring and organizing visual artists, musicians, dancers, and other creatives to use their talents to spotlight important social justice issues. This position is responsible for curating and leading programs that empower artists to communicate impactful messages through their art, which will be showcased and shared through digital and social media. The Director will bring creativity, strategy, and passion for social justice to build a vibrant, purpose-driven community of student artists.
 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Development & Strategy:

  • Design and lead programs that encourage and support artists in using their skills to address social justice topics, such as equality, climate change, and human rights.

  • Develop initiatives that connect students in visual arts, music, dance, and other creative disciplines to engage in storytelling and advocacy through their craft.

  • Collaborate with the editorial and social media teams to ensure seamless integration of artistic projects with Voice Up’s broader content and messaging.
     

2. Community Building & Artist Mobilization:

  • Build and cultivate a diverse community of young artists passionate about social change, drawing talent from colleges, universities, and art communities.

  • Organize events, workshops, and campaigns that foster collaboration among artists, connecting them with mentors and activists to enhance their impact.

  • Support artists in creating projects that can be shared on social media platforms, reaching a wide and engaged audience.


3. Creative Direction & Curation:

  • Curate high-quality artistic content that aligns with Voice Up’s mission and resonates with the college audience.

  • Provide guidance to artists on using multimedia formats, including video, graphic design, and performance art, for digital sharing and storytelling.

  • Review and approve submissions to ensure artistic projects meet quality and mission standards.
     

4. Digital & Social Media Engagement:

  • Collaborate with the social media team to create and execute campaigns that showcase artists’ work on digital platforms.

  • Develop strategies for maximizing visibility and engagement for creative projects, using trending formats and platform-specific techniques.

  • Track analytics and feedback to assess the impact of creative projects and optimize future programs.
     

5. Educational Programming & Mentorship:

  • Design educational resources, webinars, and tutorials to help student artists develop their skills and understand the intersection of art and activism.

  • Recruit and connect established artists, activists, and industry professionals with students for mentorship and learning opportunities.

  • Lead discussions and training sessions on the role of art in social justice, helping students become effective storytellers and advocates.


Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a higher learning institution, including two-year or four-year colleges, universities, or trade schools.

  • Or recent alumni with very strong on campus real time connections.

  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.

  • Experience with digital content strategy, especially in reaching and engaging Gen Z audiences.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable in a startup environment, and willing to adapt and innovate.

  • Deep understanding of current social, political, and cultural issues relevant to college students.

  • 2-4 years of experience in program management, arts education, or community organizing, ideally with a focus on social justice or digital media.

  • Strong understanding of social justice issues and a demonstrated commitment to advocacy through the arts.

  • Familiarity with social media and digital platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, and an ability to optimize content for each.

  • Excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills, with experience organizing and mobilizing artistic communities.

  • Proficiency in creative tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, video editing software) is a plus.

  • Passionate about mentoring and empowering young artists to make a difference.
     

Compensation: This is a startup role with deferred compensation expected to commence approximately six to nine months after Voice Up's launch. In lieu of monetary compensation during the startup period, an equity stake in the corporation will be granted through a formal written agreement. This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a mission-driven initiative that empowers student voices and creates lasting social impact.
