Voice Up Artist Discovery Internship

A Joint Initiative by Voice Up Publishing and J Ellington Publishing LLC

 

Initiative Overview

Voice Up is a transformative collaborative dedicated to mobilizing college students as agents of social impact. Our mission is to amplify voices that drive meaningful transformation through creative expression and strategic community engagement.

Our joint mission is to empower emerging artists and mobilize college students to become catalysts for positive social change, bridging creative expression with community impact.

 

Internship Purpose

The Artist Discovery Intern will play a crucial role in identifying and connecting with emerging creative artists who are using their craft as a powerful tool for social transformation, directly supporting the Voice Up initiative's core objectives. To Lead with humility, precision, patience, and empathy.

 

Key Responsibilities

- Seek out new independent, unsigned creatives in music, the visual arts, dance, theater, and film.

- Conduct comprehensive research to identify musicians, singers, rappers, and other creative artists with a demonstrated commitment to social impact

- Develop and maintain a database of potential artists who are creating work that addresses community challenges

- Perform outreach through social media, music platforms, local community networks, and grassroots organizations

- Compile detailed profiles of artists, highlighting their artistic work, social impact initiatives, and community engagement

- Analyze and document the potential social change initiatives of identified artists

- Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations showcasing discovered talent

- Collaborate with team members to develop strategies for supporting and amplifying artists' social impact efforts

- Contribute to the Voice Up initiative's goal of student-driven global transformation

 

Qualifications

Required

- Passion for social change and creative expression

- Excellent communication and research skills

- Proficiency in digital communication platforms

- Strong interpersonal and networking abilities

- Ability to work independently in a remote environment

- Fluency in English (additional languages are a plus)

- Commitment to the Voice Up mission of mobilizing students for social change

 

Preferred

- Background in music, arts, social work, or community development

- Experience with social media research and outreach

- Understanding of diverse cultural contexts

- Basic data analysis and reporting skills

- Demonstrated interest in creative social impact initiatives

 

Academic and Professional Opportunities

- **Academic Credit**: We partner with educational institutions to offer academic credit for this internship

  - Students can work with their academic advisors to potentially apply this internship towards:

    - Internship course requirements

    - Experiential learning credits

    - Capstone or independent study projects

- **Professional Recommendation**: 

  - Upon successful completion of the internship, interns will receive a comprehensive letter of recommendation

  - The letter will be personally signed by the founder of Voice Up Publishing

  - Recommendation will highlight the intern's contributions, skills developed, and potential for future social impact work

 

Time Commitment

- 10-15 hours per week

- Flexible schedule

- 3-6 month internship period
